Ceiling Fan Light Wiring

One of the hardest things about installing a brand new ceiling fan light is dealing with the ceiling fan light wiring. But we are here to help you with this confusion by giving you some basic instructions on what you need to do.

There are some ceiling fan light kits that come with the wiring already set and in place. When you use one of these all you have to do is install the ceiling fan light bulbs and shades. However, there are times when you will need to wire the ceiling light kit on your own. These instructions will help you to accomplish this daunting task.

  • Remove the cover plate switch from the ceiling fan.
  • Remove the plug that lies in the middle of the cover plate.
  • Push the ceiling light kit wires (the black and white wires) through the holes in the cover place and screw it back into the light kit. Make sure that it is screw in tightly to prevent it from shifting loose.
  • Find two wires that are in the switch housing and labeled specifically “for light” These wires are the white and blue wires.
  • Connect these wires to the light kit using special wire nuts. The white will go to the white and the blue will go to the black.
  • Tightly secure the wires with electrical tape to keep the wire nuts from shifting loose while in use.
  • Push the wires carefully into the switch housing and attach the light kit to the switch housing. Tighten the screw so that they do not loosen during use.
